About the
York Community Foundation

History


The York Community Foundation was established and incorporated in 1984 with initial assets of $5,000. Founding members of the Board of Directors were: Robert V. Jones, C.G. “Kelly” Holthus, Bradley E. Barrows, A.C. “Jack” Holmquist and Donald N. Witte. The Foundation received 501(c) (3) tax exempt status in 1985, and currently has assets valued at over $6 million. The Foundation has awarded over $3 million in grants for projects and programs in the York community and surrounding area. In addition, the Foundation has awarded over $2 million in scholarships.

Board of Directors


The York Community Foundation is governed by a fifteen-member Board of Directors, elected to serve based on their knowledge of community needs. The Board meets annually on the second Monday in November. The public is invited to attend.

Foundation Membership


The Foundation also has a membership composed of persons who are interested in devoting their efforts or funds to further the purposes of the Foundation. Any person may be elected to membership in the Foundation by a majority vote of the Directors present at any annual or special meeting. The annual members’ meeting is held prior to the annual Board of Director’s meeting the second Monday in November.
